Parents & 6th Graders of Wanakah Middle School:
My name is Ms. Resavy and I teach the science courses here at Wanakah Middle School. This year, we will be learning all about weather. I love exploring the various atmospheric conditions that impact our daily lives, from sunny days to stormy skies. I have been interested in weather for as long as I can remember and served as an Aerographer's Mate (AG) in the United States Navy. An "AG" is just military jargon for a meteorologist and Uncle Sam taught me well. I love passing along fun weather facts to my students and enjoy taking pictures of cloud formations, especially the ones that seem a little unusual. This typically peaks my curiosity even more and I wind up spending hours learning all I can about them. If I had my own bucket, near the top would be to take a picture of a funnel cloud. A funnel cloud is a tornado that has not reached the ground yet. Doesn't that sound amazing? I hope to pass along my enthusiasm for discovery to each of my students in some way which is why the top of this page says "Calling All Weather Geeks!" While we all might not choose to pursue a career as a storm chaser, we all need to understand the basics to be able to enjoy the good days and to be safe when the weather gets rough.
I firmly believe that learning is not limited to the four walls of a classroom, but goes far beyond any structure or time frame. Instruction can take place just about anywhere and taking individual learning preferences into consideration can increase the chances for successful outcomes. Hands-on approaches are usually my favorite methods, but some learners deal better with “how to” videos or lectures given in person or though audio recordings. l created this website so that I could pass along valuable information related to our classroom instruction and to give others a chance to post comments or questions and a chance to share their favorite weather photos. My 6th grade lesson plan is attached at the bottom of this page and the website contains pages for instructional materials such as:
When not in the classroom, I am available for walk-in appointments during the hours of 7:30am - 9:00am and then again from 2:30pm - 4:30pm. My office phone number is 601-266-5810 or via email at [email protected]. The students know that my door is always open and I encourage them to stop by if they need any additional help or just want to swap weather stories. I tell them to be weather explorers and to learn wherever they find themselves, taking advantage of adventures that come their way.
